Flailing Fears

by - June 12, 2020

the second we're born

fear ties its ribbons 'round our wrists
even as we kick and flail and scream
into the white sterility of a hospital room
a cluster of loved ones crowding for a peek
there is no saving us from the light
we can only learn to master them,
or let them rule over us
they can be a mere ornament
or the shackles we bear
